Magic Round Team Lists: Dearden Out for the Carnival, Mitchell a Chance, Fa'alogo Cleared for Storm

NRL Magic Round 2026 lands at Suncorp Stadium Friday with all eight matches across three days. Tom Dearden is out for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury. Latrell Mitchell is a chance to return for Souths. Sua Fa'alogo cleared for the in-form Storm. The Panthers face the Dragons in Sunday's apparent mismatch.

NRL | 12 May 2026

The NRL's signature carnival lands at Suncorp Stadium this weekend with all eight Round 11 matches across three days from Friday 15 May to Sunday 17 May. Magic Round 2026 is the sixth edition of the format, with both Women's State of Origin Game II on Thursday night and the marquee Penrith vs Dragons matchup as the Sunday night sealer. The team lists released Tuesday afternoon contain three major moves that will shape the carnival.

Cowboys Hit by Dearden Injury

Tom Dearden has been ruled out for six to eight weeks after the ankle injury he picked up in Friday's loss to Parramatta. The Cowboys' premiership credentials take a significant hit. Coach Todd Payten has been weighing two options: switch Jaxon Purdue from the wing into the halves with Zac Laybutt coming into the centres, or hand Brad Schneider the starting playmaker job alongside Reece Robson. Back-up hooker Soni Luke also faces at least a month out with a high-grade MCL tear, opening the door for 20-year-old Xavier Kerrisk to debut. The Cowboys face the Roosters at 5:30pm Saturday and the team list will firm Tuesday evening with Payten's decision.

For Souths, Latrell Mitchell is a chance of returning from the bulging disc that kept him out of Round 10. Mitchell sat out Sunday's defeat of the Bulldogs, with Latrell Siegwalt taking his place. If Mitchell remains out, Siegwalt should hold the centre role for the Dolphins fixture at 8:00pm Friday. Souths face the Dolphins in the second of the Friday double-header, with Wayne Bennett's side coming off back-to-back wins.

Storm Get Fa'alogo Back, Penrith Strong

Melbourne, off the back of Sunday's streak-breaking 44-16 win over the Wests Tigers, get Sua Fa'alogo cleared of a facial fracture and back at fullback for the Saturday Eels clash. Xavier Coates (achilles) remains a week away but Origin proximity may have him push harder. The Storm face the Eels at 7:45pm Saturday with Magic Round's biggest betting move expected. Penrith are virtually unchanged for the Sunday night clash against the wooden-spooning Dragons. Jack Cogger returns from his one-match ban to take the spot of the dropped Billy Scott. Casey McLean takes the centre vacated by an injury.

The full Round 11 schedule starts Friday 15 May with Cronulla vs Canterbury at 6pm, then Souths vs Dolphins at 8pm. Saturday: Wests Tigers vs Manly 3pm, Roosters vs Cowboys 5:30pm, Eels vs Storm 7:45pm. Sunday: Titans vs Knights 2pm, Warriors vs Broncos 4:05pm, Panthers vs Dragons 6:25pm. The Brisbane Broncos host the Warriors with captain Adam Reynolds returning from concussion protocols.

Where the Markets Land

The premiership market continues to favour Penrith at $2.40 ahead of Manly $5, Storm $11 (firmed from $26), Brisbane $11, and Cronulla $11. Magic Round Best Team market opens at dabble with Penrith $1.30, Storm $5, Manly $7, Roosters $11. The Cowboys-Roosters fixture sits as the Saturday night feature with the Chooks $1.85 favourites at Picklebet, Cowboys $1.95 the underdog given Dearden's absence. Storm-Eels has Melbourne at $1.62 about the visitors with the line at -8.5. Penrith vs Dragons opens at $1.10 about the home side with the line at -22.5.

Magic Round tickets remain available across the three days at the Suncorp Stadium box office. Full match details, the Magic Round programme and live blog coverage are available via ABC Sport. Ladbrokes and Neds have refreshed all Round 11 markets through Tuesday morning.
