BetStop Self-Exclusion Register Reaches 30,000 Registrations

The national self-exclusion register has now processed over 30,000 registrations since its launch, with enforcement across all licensed operators.

Regulation | 10 March 2026

The BetStop National Self-Exclusion Register has reached 30,000 registrations, according to ACMA's latest quarterly report. The register, launched in August 2023, allows Australians to exclude themselves from all licensed online wagering services with a single registration.

How BetStop Works

When a person registers with BetStop, all licensed Australian betting operators are required to close their existing accounts and refuse any new account applications. The exclusion periods range from a minimum of 3 months to a lifetime ban.

Operators who fail to comply face significant penalties. ACMA has already issued infringement notices to several operators for BetStop compliance failures.

Why It Matters

BetStop is the most significant responsible gambling infrastructure change in Australian betting history. Before BetStop, self-exclusion was operator-by-operator, meaning a person would need to contact each bookmaker individually. The national register closes that gap.
