AFL ANZAC Eve: Swans Smash Injury-Hit Bulldogs by 66 Points at Marvel

The Sydney Swans further cemented their position as 2026 premiership favourites with a 66-point demolition of an injury-ravaged Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night. The 24.19.163 to 14.13.97 result extends the Swans' record to 6-1 and gives them a competition-best percentage of 175. Punters who took Sydney's preseason price of $7.50 are looking comfortable.

A Statement from the Swans

Sydney piled on 11 goals to four after halftime, with the back half of the contest reduced to a procession. Errol Gulden gathered 35 disposals at midfield, Isaac Heeney kicked four goals on the wing, and the recalled Tom Papley provided three more from his return at half-forward. Coach Dean Cox kept the foot down throughout the final term, with the Swans recording season-high numbers for inside 50 entries (68) and contested marks (16).

The result was the latest in a string of statement performances. The Swans now hold the four largest winning margins in the competition this season including their 163-35 demolition of West Coast in Round 4. Their forward 50 entry-to-score ratio sits at 53 per cent, comfortably the best in the league.

Naughton Injury Concern

The night was soured for the Bulldogs by a serious-looking injury to Aaron Naughton in the third quarter. The key forward was stretchered off after a marking contest left him on the ground for several minutes. The club has confirmed Naughton was conscious and able to communicate at the time, but he was sent for scans on Friday morning. Coach Luke Beveridge described the injury list as the most extensive he has seen in his time at the club, with Marcus Bontempelli, Tim English and Sam Darcy also already sidelined.

Bulldogs supporters now face a Round 8 fixture against an in-form Hawthorn side without their best three forwards. Updates on the injury situation are tracked at ABC AFL.

What This Means for Punters

Sydney's premiership price has shortened from $7.50 in pre-season to a market-leading $3.20 across most Australian bookmakers. The next available value sits with Hawthorn at $5.50, given they share the ladder lead with the Swans on 24 points. The Bulldogs have drifted to $34 for the flag and short prices are now appearing in their wooden spoon market for the first time. For ANZAC Day Saturday, Sydney's form has lifted Collingwood's price out to $1.55 against Essendon as punters tip the Pies will not match the Swans' percentage. Same-game multi punters are gravitating to Sydney win plus margin 50+, which has paid four times in their seven outings this season.
